Here is a glossary of some anatomical and medical terms that will be important to your understanding of the prostrate and BPH.
A simple definition of the terms and some related facts are provided.
High |
Cholesterol is important to the body for many functions. There are two main types, the LDL (low density lipoproteins) and HDL (high density lipoproteins). Excessive levels of LDL cholesterol can increase risk for heart disease. To know more about how high cholesterol affects ED, click here. |

Diabetes |
Diabetes is a disease in which there is too much glucose (sugar) in the blood. Over time, high blood sugar levels can damage nerves and blood vessels, and hamper the process of erection. To know more about how diabetes affects ED, click here. |
Tuberculosis |
Tuberculosis is a lung infection that is caused by bacteria. |
Bladder |
Cancer is a disease where abnormal cells grow and lead to invasion and destruction of nearby healthy tissues and organs. Most bladder cancers develop in the inside lining of the bladder. |
Circumcision |
It is the removal of the foreskin of the penis. |
Ejaculation |
It is the discharge of semen from the erect penis during orgasm. |
Cavernosa |
It refers to two chambers in the penis that are filled with spongy tissue. Blood flows in and fills the spaces in the tissue to create an erection. |
Intraurethral |
This refers to the treatment therapy where medications are inserted into the urethra and to increase blood flow and allow muscle relaxation for erection. |
Prostheses |
A prosthesis (singular) is an artificial substitute or replacement of a part of the body. |
Emphysema |
A condition when there is an abnormal accumulation of air in the lung's many tiny air sacs. |
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease |
Also known as COPD, this is a disorder that persistently obstructs bronchial airflow. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are the most common features of this disease and the obstruction generally deteriorates over time. |
